Seattle To Portland 2025

This year I participated and completed the Seattle To Portland bike ride in two days. As this was my third time competing in this event, I got to see familiar faces at the rest stops as well as meet old friends that I made throughout my experience in the STP. I had wanted to attempt to complete the STP in one day, but my dad had unfortunately scraped his leg at around 88 miles and we had to stop for the night. We still managed to finish the event at about the same pace that we would have usually done so. I think that the main reason that we managed to finish so early is because of the items like gauze, painkillers, and the wet cloths from last year really helped with the medical problems that we had and the heat that we also faced this year, as the heat really got cranked up on the second day.

With temperatures in the PNW hitting the mid to high 90s, this year was especially hard for me and my group as we biked our way from The University of Washington-Seattle to Holladay Park in Portland, Oregon. During this event, I learned how to deal with chafing and other comfort issues while riding my bike, as well as using different dietary resources like bananas and salt pills to maintain electrolyte levels. The heat also necessitated the use of wet cloth and water to prevent heatstroke and other medical issues that may result from the sheer heat that we faced. Overall, we had managed to finish the ride at a much faster pace than the year before thanks to the prep and decisions that we took.

Seattle To Portland 2023

My first experience in the STP was interesting. On one hand, I really enjoyed it and I got to meet a lot of bikers that I could relate to on my journey. On the other hand, severe dehydration and my ego kind of got in my way, but I managed to still finish the event in the end. I think a major problem that I face as a biker is that there’s a real lack of people my age who are also interested in long distance biking. This led to a lot of problems for me when I wanted to join biking groups and when I wanted to talk to people who also like biking. This ride, however, has allowed me to meet a lot of new people that I would have never met if I never went on this ride. The first day was really tough, as searing heats and high humidity left me super thirsty and tired. It also didn’t help that I wouldn’t consistently drink water during my rest stops and I was overexerting myself to keep pace with the fastest people. Thanks to the help of medical staff and my mom though, I managed to recover enough energy to finish the second day at my all time best average of 16 miles per hour. I think that this was a great milestone in my biking career, and I will definitely be doing this next year.
